Roanoke Doctor Fraudulently Obtains Pain Medication

On Monday, Dr. Wayne Brackenrich of Carillion Clinic in Roanoke was indicted by a grand jury in Roanoke Circuit Court for obtaining pain medication fraudulently reports The Roanoke Times.

Brakenrich specializes in family and sports medicine and has been a practicing for almost 33 years, according to a profile maintained by the Virginia Department of Health Professionals.

The indictments accuse him of obtaining a pain medication call hydrocodone by altering a prescription four times between four times between April and June 2013. Hydrocodone is a semi-synthetic opioid that is used to treat moderate to severe pain.

Embezzlement was another charge that was mentioned in the indictments. They do not name Carillion Clinic as the employer of Brakenrich. When asked Carillion spokesperson declined to comment on the case and ongoing investigation.
