The Virginia Board of Education has unanimously elected Christian N. Braunlich of Fairfax County as president and Winsome E. Sears of Frederick County as vice chairwoman. Braunlich and Sears replaced Chairman David M. Foster, and Vice Chairwoman Betsy D. Beamer whose four-year terms on the Board ended in January.
According to the Richmond Times-Dispatch, Braunlich is vice president of the Thomas Jefferson Institute for Public Policy. He has been on the state board since July 2011 and has been chairman of the board’s Charter School Committee. Sears has been on the board since February 2011. She was chairwoman of the board’s College Partnership Laboratory Schools Committee.
Two new members, James H. Dillard of Fairfax and Andrew Ko of Ashburn also joined the nine-member board this January. Dillard represented the 41st district in the House of Delegates for 32 years. Ko is a Microsoft employee in charge of Microsoft’s U.S. Partners in Learning Program.
