According to ThinkProgress, Obenshain stated he opposes “discrimination of any kind,” and that employment discrimination “should not be tolerated in Virginia.”
However, his actions, or lack thereof, are speaking much louder than his words.
“Though a bipartisan super-majority of state Senators and Delegates in 2005 signed statements averring that they would not personally discriminate in employment decisions on the basis of sexual orientation, he [Obenshain] declined to do so,” reports ThinkProgress.
He also voted against laws that would ban discrimination to the LGBT community in public employment.
The anti-LGBT Family Foundation of Virginia has announced their support for Obenshain.
