Cuccinelli Defends VA Constitutional Ban on Gay Marriage

Since 2006, same-sex marriage has been banned in Virginia by a constitutional amendment. Executive Director of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Virginia recently announced that it will file a suit to challenge that amendment. Attorney General and candidate for Virginia Governor Ken Cuccinelli said that he will defend Virginia’s law. On numerous occasions, Cuccinelli has said that he “recognizes only the union of a man and woman as marriage.” His support for the constitutional ban may antagonize the ACLU and build off of his previous petition of the DOMA ruling
