The House passed the farm bill today which separated food stamps from farm programs, a division of the two which hasn’t been seen since the early 1970’s.
The bill H.R. 1947 came under fire mostly by Democrats who opposed the exclusion of food stamps and nutrition programs.
According to a USDA report, as of April 2013 Virginia has just under 1 million participants in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).
