Incumbent Matt Fariss, who represents the 59th district in the Virginia House of Delegates, recently voiced his position about the Supreme Court’s decision to strike down Section 4 of the Voting Rights Act. Fully supporting the decision, Fariss called the ruling “constitutionally sound”. His position is based on his belief that our nation has matured past slavery and discrimination. Fariss also added that a law like that “limits the state’s right to self-government.” Besides releasing statements about the issues, Delegate Fariss has also made several important appearances throughout Virginia. He presented the Instructor of the Year Award to the Central Virginia Criminal Justice Academy last week.
