Former chef at the governor’s mansion, Todd Schneider, is being charged with embezzling food. “Schneider told a lawyer in Cuccinelli’s offfice that he knew of other alleged wrongdoing in the mansion,” reports The Washington Post.
The “wrongdoing” consisted of Jonnie R. Williams, Sr. CEO of Star Scientific, Inc., paying $15,000 for the catering at the wedding of Gov. McDonnell’s daughter. Even though McDonnell is the one signed the catering contract.
Cuccinelli’s staff did not disclose any information about the governor’s scandal since he is close friends with Williams.
Virginian law does not allow police to investigate an elected official unless the governor, attorney general, or grand jury direct them to do so.
Cuccinelli will not be testifying at Schneider’s trial and has asked Richmond Commonwealth’s Attorney Mark Herring to review McDonnell’s financial disclosure to remove an bias from the case.
