Governor’s Law Will Not be Delayed

2865343328_f35ff579a5After Tuesday’s U.S. Supreme Court decision to weaken Section 4 of the Voting Rights Act,  Governor Bob McDonnell’s proposed voter ID laws are picking up steam. The governor  is currently attempting to pass a controversial  law that would require Virginians to provide photo identification in order to vote.  The legislation is expected to take effect by July 2014. After the Supreme Court’s ruling, McDonnell’s office released a statement saying “As we review the Supreme Court’s opinion, it does not appear that the voter identification legislation will be delayed as a result of the Supreme Court’s ruling.” For more on this story please read The Richmond Times.
